SOUTH BURLINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT

POLICY F13

STUDENT ENROLLMENT AND TUITION

POLICY

It is the policy of the South Burlington School District to provide educational opportunities to South Burlington school age children.  Within the constraints of available resources, the district supports actions that increase the diversity of the student body.

NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS

Within limitations set by this policy and implementation procedures, the District will strive to accommodate the requests of nonresident students to attend school in the District.

DEFINITIONS

Resident students are those school age students residing in South Burlington with their parent or guardian, students determined to be residents by the Commissioner of Education or the probate court, and those students 18 years of age or older who reside in South Burlington.  All others students are non-residents.

International students are those non-resident students who are not citizens of the United States.

ELIGIBILITY TO ENROLL

All resident students are eligible to enroll in District schools. Non-resident students are eligible to enroll in District schools if tuition is being paid by another Vermont school district and the student meets the criteria for success set forth in administrative procedures.  Non-resident students seeking enrollment through paying tuition privately are not eligible.

International students who are approved for admission by an organization evaluated and meeting the standards of the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) are eligible to enroll in District schools.

A resident student who seeks tuition payment to attend a public school other than a South Burlington School would need approval from the South Burlington School Board.

TUITION WAIVER

The superintendent is authorized to waive a partial or annual tuition payment in the following cases:

PROCEDURES

The superintendent will develop procedures to implement this policy that ensure there is space available for admitted students and there is no violation of state laws or state board rules.
