This year we began a scholarship fund for families in need of after-school care who cannot afford the program.  The fund was created in memory of Ila Pollard who was killed in a tragic car accident in 2005.   Ila was a very caring and compassionate child who always put the well being of others ahead of her own.  Ila’s father, Casey, wrote the following:

“In memory of Ila Anne Pollard

Ila was always excited for new things at the School’s Out program and made some great friends in a safe environment.  Ila cared about everyone but had a special gift to always find the person who needed a little more.  She was thoughtful and sensitive at all times and always  tried to make things better for others before herself.   So when Vermont Mechanical came to me and asked what they could do to keep her Special Spirit alive in a way that would make Ila happy, the first thing that came to my mind was helping some other kids to enjoy something that she did.  So it’s very fitting that the School’s Out program should be able to help others the way that they helped Ila. I’m very privileged to have Ila as my daughter, but also very honored to have the School’s Out Program receive this in Ila’s name, knowing that they will be helping others while keeping her memory alive at Central School and the School’s Out Program.

From a proud and dedicated father to a proud and dedicated educational program

  Casey Pollard”
